Bislim Condition for Elections in the North, EU: Stateable as Soon, Serbs Are Expected to Take part

A European Union spokesman has said Brussels agrees with statements by Kosovo's chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, regarding the proclamation of new elections in the north and conditioning that such a thing will happen if the EU removes measures towards Kosovo. From official Brussels, however, they have reiterated that in the June 3rd statement of the 27 member states, it is clear that elections should be announced as soon as possible and are inclusive. This EU spokesman has suggested that Serbs are expected to participate in these elections.

The 27 member states of the European Union in a joint stance published on June 3rd had made clear the steps Kosovo should take for de-pass to the country's north. In this official communiqué, it has been said that the EU expects Kosovo to act to de-tradition the situation, immediately suspending police operations in the vicinity of municipal buildings, for the new mayors to carry out temporary duties in alternative municipal objects and to be declared as soon as elections in four municipalities in the north are inclusively, specifying that they expect Kosovo Serbs to participate in the elections.

Kosovo's refusal to act in accordance with EU requirements had led official Brussels to officially impose measures on Kosovo.

The head of Kosovo's negotiating team and the number two of Kosovo Governments, Besnik Bislimi, in a statement made Monday has said Kosovo must declare new elections in four municipalities in the north until the European Union removes measures towards Kosovo.

Regarding this condition of the Government of Kosovo, in a response to Gazeta Express, a European Union spokesman has said they do not comment on the statements of Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi and has stressed that in the attitude of 27 member states it is clearly determined that new elections be announced as soon as possible and that they are inclusive in the four municipalities.

This European Union spokesman has told Gazeta Express that it is expected that local Serbs will participate in this election.

“We do not comment comments. We, however, seize the case to re-focus that the EU expects the parties to implement the EU requirements as outlined in the EU statement 27 by 3 June 2023. This clearly stipulates that early elections should be announced as soon as possible and organised in a fully comprehensive manner in all four Kosovo Serb municipalities in the north. Kosovo Serbs are expected to participate in these elections”, this European Union spokesman has told Gazeta Express.

As for their measures and their departure, a European Union spokesman had said those measures are temporary and could be taken depending on actions on the ground and decisions on de-pass that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti could make.

“These measures are temporary and completely returnable, depending on developments on the ground and decisions on the despass taken by Prime Minister Kurti”, have said from Brussels on the Express on July 1st.
