Tensions in the north, German MP: The climate of distrust led to dangerous dynamics

Within the framework of Germany and France's efforts to ease tensions in northern Kosovo, which erupted into violence against KFOR soldiers in recent days, Thomas Hacker, German liberal MP, (FDP) and rapporteurs for Western Balkan countries in the liberal parliamentary group have also indicated.

The recent “Days have shown that riots and climate of distrust in northern Kosovo have led to dangerous dynamics that should not be tolerated and conflict with the Ohrid Agreement. ”

The German MP has welcomed the request of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron for new elections in the four Serb majority northern municipalities in Kosovo. But according to Hacker they can reduce tensions only if the Srpska List participates and is released from Belgrade's dictatorship. Clearly, a new boycott of elections is not going to change the situation, Thomas Hawker points out.

Kosovo's “Pala must lower the disproportional presence in northern Kosovo and not try to extract political capital from the current security vacuum. This behaviour only serves Belgrade's narrator and enables Vuciqi to draw attention to the domestic political situation in Serbia”, German MP Thomas Hacker has indicated in a press release. / DW
