In the Kosovo Assembly yesterday, it has been debated for the country's north, where Prime Minister Albin Kurti has been invited by the Parliament's Headship to declare the situation created and the wavering reports with the US.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, during his speech to MPs, said the new mayors of municipalities in northern Kosovo were accompanied by security forces because they had to ensure their entry into municipal objects without obstacles.
He stressed that this was not a political decision.
“at this point I have to stress that the association of new security-force heads is the assessment of security institutions that assess the degree of risk, so it's not a political decision, but I as prime minister support this yet, even today”, Kurti said. He added that he supports this decision because incidents in the coming days proved there was danger of attacks by “criminal gangs”.
Protests in three municipalities in northern Kosovo -- the Serb-run residential area -- began on May 26th, when groups of local Serbs gathered in front of municipal objects to protest the entry of new Albanian mayors of Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviqi into them.
Among other things, the prime minister said these protests are not the will of Serbs living in those municipalities, but are organised by official Belgrade.
“I am aware that not all those participating in pre-objective gatherings are part of criminal gangs, but are obliged to serve as a human shield”, Kurti said during his speech at the Kosovo Assembly session.
Kurti also said Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has regretted saying yes to the Brussels Agreement because “knows it's good for Kosovo and refuses to sign it”.
He called the situation in the north “tense and dangerous”, but said it cannot contribute to the creation of parallel structures in the north because “if municipal objects are not for mayor, then who are they for? ”
The legislation [of the mayors] is weak, but legality is complete. And those who criticize us for legitimacy have no legitimacy because they have abandoned the” institutions, Kurti said.
He said it is now in question “the liberation of the Serb community from the fascist militia” and that this community needs political pluralism.
Kurti, added that the Serbian List should pay itself the consequences for withdrawing from Kosovo institutions and boycotting elections in four municipalities in northern Kosovo and demanding that their decisions not be punished by Kosovo.
We are not against the Serbs. We have invited them to return to institutions, but the cardinal mistake of the Serbian List that boycotted the elections, which left the elections, should not be paid to our Republic, but Serbian List”, Kurti said.
He also said that these were the political decisions of the Serbian List ʹ the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, and for those reasons, they must face the consequences themselves.
Kosovo's prime minister added that the passage of the situation on May 29th, when KFOR soldiers remained injured, was well planned “” and orchestrated by Belgrade.
Kurti also that protesters in Kosovo's north are not seeking new municipal elections, while adding that Kosovo's “power can only deal with elections, not grenade attacks”.
Democratic Party of Kosovo Chairman Memli Krasniqi said that the Kosovo government's actions in the country's north were carried out “conducted in itself” and that they were not in co-ordination with the allies.
You first brought us into a situation to publicly condemn us to the American secretary of state. Not only he, but he's the most important because our report with the United States is sacred. We don't let you risk it because it's holy”, Krasniqi said, referring to Antony Blinken's statement.
“Sovereignty cannot be kept in your office without US support”, Krasniqi said.
According to him, even holding the election process in the four municipalities north of Kosovo dealt with Zvecan, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok and North Mitrovica é came because of the “mistakes of Kurti”, referring to the Kosovo Government's decision to reregister cars from KM to RKS that led to the resignation of Serb workers from Kosovo institutions.
You're finally attracted, why don't you mention it? There are no license plates. And finally, what happened? You had to enter the election process”, he added.
The chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, said his party would prevent by any means the strategic slide of the Republic of Kosovo”, as it said without co-ordination with Western allies, Kosovo could not achieve its rights.
Abdixhiku said his party had decided not to compete in the elections in four municipalities in Kosovo's north dealt with Zvecan, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok and North Mitrovica since it felt it could not represent residents in this predominantly Serb area.
<x0) The LDK did not compete, we have supported the race of two political parties because we believe it is the right of an independent democratic state. Today, our right, without the Allied West, is unlikely to exist”, Obadiah said during his speech at the Kosovo Assembly.
He said Kosovo historically has co-operated with the US and its allies to achieve its rights and said that “this is not submissive, it is wisdom”. He added that from such non-co-operation, “will have irreparable damage for the state of Kosovo and then we will all suffer”.
Alliance for the Future of Kosovo Chairman Ramush Haradinaj has called for the dismissal of Prime Minister Kurti's government, inviting MPs to launch no-confidence motion against the Kosovo government.
“Distrusted to infidelity by the chairman of the Government of Kosovo against security allies that are still a guarantee of our security. Who benefits from this except [the president of Russia, Vladimir] Putin and Russia? That's why I ask you to go to the motion and cut the distrust to the point of treason and sack Kurti” Government, Haradinaj said in his speech.
The elections in the four municipalities in the north, inhabited by Serb majority, were held on April 23rd following the resignation of mayors from the ranks of the Serb List, the largest party of Kosovo Serbs in November last year.
The elections were boycotted by the majority Serb population in the area, which now does not accept the new mayors.
The escalation in the north culminated on Monday, May 29th, when KFOR peacekeeping troops intervened in Zvecan “to avoid clashes between the parties and to minimize the risk of escalation”, and were attacked by some violent protesters, which the Kosovo government says were Serbian criminal “”.
In this clash that took place, 30 KFOR soldiers were injured.
The United States and the allies said the use of force undermines efforts to normalise Kosovo-Serbia relations and called for calming the situation.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has consistently defended the actions of the Kosovo Police, which helped install new Albanian mayors in Serb majority municipalities in northern Kosovo, despite resistance by local residents. / REL
