Blinken has invited the Kosovo government and Serbia's to resume efforts to implement normalisation agreements led by the European Union.
The “Many allies express concern about the rise in tensions in northern Kosovo and strongly condemns the recent attacks on KFOR, our Italian and Hungarian colleagues who were hurt in that attack. We invite the Government of Kosovo and Serbia to take immediate steps to expand the situation and resume efforts to implement the EU-led normalisation agreement”, Blinken has said at the media conference Thursday in Oslo, Norway.
US Secretary of State has said they support the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo and Serbia, but these tensions, according to him, do not help the process.
“We support the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo and Serbia, but the current situation stands in the way of moving in that direction”, he has said.
Blinken has reacted earlier, asking Kosovo not to enter municipal facilities by force in summer municipalities.
International reactions came after shares of the Kosovo Police on May 26th, in three municipalities in northern Kosovo, Zubin Potok, Zvecan and Leposaviq, to ensure access to the municipal facilities of the new mayors of these three municipalities.
The escalation in the north culminated on Monday, May 29th, when KFOR peacekeeping troops intervened in Zvecan “to avoid clashes between the parties and to minimize the risk of escalation”, and were attacked by some violent protesters, which the Kosovo government says were Serbian criminal “”.
In this clash that took place, 30 KFOR soldiers were injured.
