Germany's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, has discovered during an interview with foreign media the conversation he had left with Prime Minister Albin Kurti last week.
In the interview conducted for “Table Berlin”, Sarrazin said he communicated to Prime Minister Kurti that in the conflict in northern Kosovo, each of the parties would take responsibility for his actions.
“First, I have to say what I said directly to Prime Minister Kurti: each is responsible for its own actions. Of course, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucinic has planted additional distrust with statements and votes in the Council of Europe in recent weeks. However, the Kosovo government's decision to jeopardise this escalation by taking mayors to municipalities with a powerful police escort is a mistake for which it bears political responsibility”.
Following his speech, Sarrazin stressed that Berlin fully supports dialogue with the European Union's mediation, and the key priority is the return to the negotiating table.
“We fully support special EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak. To get away from the ongoing crisis situation now, implementation of the basic agreement between the two countries agreed on in February and March must eventually progress. Chancellor Scholz and President Macron strongly supported these efforts for dialogue in joint talks with heads of state from Kosovo and Serbia on Wednesday in Moldova. The priority here is to return to the negotiating table, calm the situation in the north, continue new elections in communities, and implement the constitutional agreement”.
As for the Serb attacks on KFOR soldiers, he said the attackers bear responsibility.
You can't say that at all. There are those who have thought, that they have mixed violently with the plaintiffs. They, of course, bear responsibility for attacks on KFOR and police, especially on those who committed violent crimes. We should not lie that these were only citizens of North Mitrovica. They weren't”. /euronews
