RGK estimates that it is the time of the end for society and institutions to take a stand against these crimes and ensure that the authors receive due punishment, without any compromise.
Full response of RGK's:
We are deeply concerned and indignant by such a serious violation of the faith and security of our young daughters. This horrible act of sexual assault serves as a strong reminder that we should give priority to protecting girls and minors within our society, even within schools.
It is time for society and institutions to take their stand against these crimes and ensure that the authors receive the deserved sentence without compromise.
It is depressing to see that these attacks on girls occur right before our eyes, while institutions often fail to give justice and proper precautions. The event in the educational institution where students should feel secure and protected highlights an alarming situation. We cannot help but wonder how many other cases are not reported.
RGK calls on responsible institutions to address this case as a high priority issue, as it should with any other case of harassment and sexual assault. Schools, in particular, must urgently develop powerful mechanisms to deal with cases of violence, harassment, and sexual assault.
We remember that in the report “From Laws to Acts: in monitoring institutional response to gender-based violence in Kosovo”, RGK has these recommendations for the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and innovation:
· To maintain training for educators and psychologists in gender-based forms of violence; how to identify signs of gender-based violence; and how to help refer to this case.
· To include teaching material on equality between women and men, mutual respect, non-specitic gender roles, gender-based violence and the way of reporting it in educational curriculums suitable for different age groups, as predicted by the Istanbul Convention.
· Split enough budgets for increased number of psychologists in schools.
Finally, it is vital to note that, as in other cases of gender-based violence, RGK will seek justice and will closely monitor this case and measures taken. We ask for the removal of work as a teacher and the same to be pronounced sentence under the Kosovo Criminal Code, which envisions sentences of up to seven years.
