Following the failure of the governor's election from the Parliament of Kosovo, the process returns to zero, and the CEC has announced the competition for this position for the second time.
According to the CEC's announcement, the appointment will be for a five-year term starting in the appointment date.
The “List of candidates who qualify from the panel will be submitted to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, which will select an individual. The approval and appointment for this position will be made by the president of the Republic of Kosovo in accordance with Article 84.27 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and Article 38.2 of Law No. 03L-209 for the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo”, says the latest publication of the CEC, Kosova Prees reports.
By contrast, the mayor's selection process had stalled on the parliamentary Commission for Buzhet, Labour and Transfere, which had demanded from Chief Prime Minister Glauk Konjufca to turn this process into zero.
Days ago civil society in the country has also expressed concern over the prolonging of the new governor's appointment to the Central Bank of Kosovo (BQK).
For the first competition until December 16th, 2022 has been the deadline for application for all who have targeted this position.
Initially to be at the helm of the CEC, 11 people had applied, including former Governor Fehmi Mehmeti.
In addition to him, to lead the highest financial institution, Nexhat Kryeziu, Shkkanje Himaj, Emmanuel Bajra, Mentor Nimani, Bezad Halilaj, Artan Ayzaj, Valdrin Krasniqi, Mentor Geci, Genc Raraci and Ardian Uka have been in the race.
Of them, four candidates qualified for this position: Ahmet Ismaili, Nexhat Kryeziu, Lulzim Ismajli and Shkelje Himaj.
Governor Fehmi Mehmet, elected on March 15, 2018, had completed his term on March 28, 2023.
As of 29 March, the Nrbako Union has been appointed a task worker for the BEC governor.
