Protests in the north today, police show what the situation is like

In the country's three northern municipalities -- Leposaviq, Zvecan and Zubin Potok -- local Serbs' protests are continuing today.

Kosovo Police spokesman Bucky Kelani has said the situation is currently calm.

Kelani has added that monitoring the situation and co-ordinated police commitments with relevant security institutions are continuing in these municipalities.

Kosovo's “Police in co-operation and co-ordination with security institutions are continuing police commitments in implementing public order and security, providing security to citizens, as well as undertaking police measures to conform the situation and developments in northern municipalities.

Reference to developments in the north of the country has made the situation tense and fragile, but today the situation is calm. Otherwise, local Serbs are regularly protesting from May 29th in these municipalities to oppose the entry of new Albanian mayors into municipal buildings.

The international factor has repeatedly called for steps towards reducing tensions.

Some diplomats have also called for holding new elections in the north.
