Pope Francis is doing well after surgery, the doctor says.

Italian media suggest he spent a quiet night following the three - hour operation at Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome. Doctors said the Pope had “well demonstrated after the operation” that it was “vigjient and conscientious” and had not forgotten to joke.

Vatican Press Office Director Matteo Bruni said: “Papa Francescu is vigilant and conscious and thanks all for the numerous messages they immediately received”.
