He said the world has changed greatly by the end of World War II, stressing that the world is multilateral and that there is no hegemony.

Mesic stressed that for this, small states must co-operate and, thus united, co-operate with the former “major players”.

Speaking to the Balkans, he said countries in the region have many common interests, but stressed that the independence of the states should be understood and accepted after the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Some of us still don't understand that. The problem is primarily in Serbia, when Kosovo is in question. It's very difficult to develop a policy where you only turn the rear mirror, directed by history. And we're in a situation that has a lot of stories per square meter. This is something that keeps us from looking back, so this policy towards Kosovo is a completely lost policy. If anyone thinks Kosovo can return with war, he is a missing one. There is a missing man who finds himself in politics and who thinks Kosovo can go back militarily. It cannot, this option simply does not exist”, Mesic said according to Anadolu, Paparaci reports.

Furthermore, Mesic said solutions to problems should be found through negotiations, respecting official institutions and recognising new realities.

On the other hand, President Pendarovski said energy issues have always been the challenge and that these have only been intensified by the war in Ukraine.

Pendarovski also stressed the need for closer co-operation among the countries of the region, stressing that neither has the power to make changes in the global plan alone.

For any obstacle, problem or challenge in the world, the countries of the Western Balkans must join broader organisations, above all I mean in the European Union, because independently, only with their domestic resources, they cannot solve this type of problems”, Pendarovski said.

Speaking of Euro-integrations, Pendarovski said that decades ago, prior to the war in Ukraine, the EU lost interest in the integration of the Western Balkans into its structures.

He called for more urgent action by Brussels institutions, recalling that support for EU membership is on the decline in all Western Balkan countries, and especially in northern Macedonia.
