“Macron, Scholz discussed how Western Balkans, Ukraine to enter the EU

The crisis in Kosovo and the tense political situation in Montenegro are currently not in favour of efforts for faster membership of neighbours in the European Union, though most EU members now consider it necessary for geopolitical reasons and stability based on European values. And the leaders of Germany and [...]
And the leaders of Germany and France, Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron, spoke of this privately in Potsdam, reports the Parisian newspaper “Le Figaro” and cites official French sources that multiple “formats must be created for that connection.
EU sources in Brussels have told the Beta agency there is concern for Kosovo and political uncertainty in Montenegro, as this has been reflected on the two countries in negotiations for EU membership.
But they stress that among EU members there is the belief that neighbours should be encouraged to approach the EU, and this is indicated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leenen, that strong economy and political support are ready for the goal of the Western Balkans, Ukraine and Moldova joining as soon as possible, for the European political community and then to open the door to EU membership through negotiations, according to merit, the Paparacy broadcasts.
In the media and among EU analysts, there are particularly doubts about what the European political community can produce tangiblely, because it corresponds mainly to the new methodology of approved enlargement.
The Spanish daily “Periodico” is one of those who believe the EU leaders' statements at the latest meeting of the European Political Community in Moldova and “Promises for the European perspective hide the fact that in the medium term there will be no new state entering the EU”.
“Periodico” and some analytical centres in the EU recall that Scholz and Macron have in some cases stated that there cannot be new members until there is a fundamental institutional and economic reform in the European Union itself.
The goal of that reform should be, as mentioned, strengthening the democratic structure within the Union, especially so that the EU will not be hampered by the voting system, the right to veto, when there are 35 members, as well as providing budget and funds for their information on the legal system and single EU market demand.
French newspaper “Le Figaro”, however, made it known that Chancellor Scholz and President Macron “shared thoughts on the very issue, because the EU must declare at the end of the year for the start of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova”.
There has been no mention of the Schelz-Macron meeting and “Le Figaro” refers to sources of the Elysée Palace, the presidency of France, and says that Macro, at the last meeting of Western leaders in Bratislava, has demanded that “themeles have been thrown as soon as possible for the speed of approaching Ukraine's membership, Moldova and Western Balkan countries in the EU<3>.
