Kosovo urges Montenegro to allow children to cross border with birth certificate

The Montenegrin coast, with particular emphasis on the Albanian town of Ulcinj, is one of the favourite destinations for Kosovars during the summer months. Montenegro, last year, has suspended its previous decision, under which children under the age of 18 from the Republic of Kosovo are allowed to cross the border only with birth certificates.
Deputy Tourism Minister in Montenegro, Armend Mila appealed citizens in Kosovo to respect this decision up to another, since it would thus avoid tolls and misunderstandings at border points.
Authorities in Kosovo confirmed that they have asked Montenegro to be allowed to pass children even with birth certificates, as they are in common interest, while waiting for an answer.
The Muriqan-Sukobine border checkpoint, connecting Albania with Montenegro, has the largest influx since it is also preferred by Kosovars.
Mila said she has had several meetings with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to discuss some new rules, while she said there have been meetings with authorities in Albania for the registration of people crossing the border to take place only once.
In July of last year, Montenegro has made the decision to cross the border for Kosovo citizens only with valid travel documents. / KP
