Besim Aliu, from Kosovo's Hydrometeorology Institute, in a response to Radio Kosovo says the rainfall will be intense, which will involve almost the entire territory, but that their intensity will not be the same.
Rain clouds that have included the country in recent days have caused the municipal majority to face flood and ongoing damage. Speaking to Radio Kosovo Besim Aliu, from the Kosovo Hydrometeorology Institute, says that from today the country will be affected by the areas of low-pression air, a unstable weather and clouds that will be followed by rainfall.
Aliu says that in some areas there may be hailfall, but the surfaces involved will be small, until he points out that hydrology sector has warned that there will be floods, or heavy rainfall that will involve almost the entire territory, but that their intensity will not be the same throughout the territory.
Their “Intensity could be the largest in the northwestern, southeastern and central part of Kosovo. The situation will continue to be similar until June 18th or 19th, until after this date we will have more clarifications, with temperatures up to 29 to 30 degrees Celsius, rainfall will be reduced and the typical summer weather with all the elements and phenomena that appear”, Aliu said.
Meanwhile, Tahir Ahmeti, expert on emergency issues and at the same time Executive Director of the Security Policy Research Centre, in a Facebook post, has stressed that rapid flows include specific territories and cross quickly, and that they occur mainly in rivers or small mountain streams, but that can cause damage to agricultural land and in domestic and business economies.
“Citizens should be informed of the possibility of these floods, so that they can be prepared and at least try to minimize the possible damage, while the responsible institutions in Kosovo, both central and local, depending on their responsibilities, should freeze their capacity to help citizens, in case of possible floods”, Ahmeti wrote.
The recent rainfalls have created major floods in villages of several municipalities, such as Skyright, Drenas, Mitrovica, Pristina and other municipalities.
