“KFOR is also in regular contact with the EU-led mission for rule of law, EULEX. We call on the parties to immediately reduce tensions and refrain from unilateral actions, which could lead to further escalation of”, the communique said.
KFOR said it is monitoring the situation and is continuing to implement its mandate, issued by UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
The United States has demanded that kidnapped police officers be released unconditionally.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti has criticised KFOR's silence in the case, saying he had a mandate to prevent the kidnapping attack.
“We are still awaiting KFOR's pending effective responsibility for exercising its defence function by ordering Serbia to bring back kidnapped police and punish this flagrant violation of territorial integrity, sovereignty, but also Article 4 of the Kumanovo Agreement. The 4th point of June 9th, 1999. KFOR therefore should not be silent or humble against the kidnapping attack that had the mandate to prevent. If you turn this silence to the norm, and a certain silent submission known by law, then let it tell us openly, and it will deny an international responsibility that had to effectively meet”, Kurti said in the Assembly on Thursday evening.
