Some citizens of the Istog municipality on Saturday have erased the names of their families from a newly installed Lapidar in this municipality, complaining that lists of names of martyrs also contain civilian victims. According to the Association of Witnesses for Istog, there are “s listed 13 names that have been only civilian victims”.

These names have been placed on lists since 2008-a”, the Association for TIME said.

The Society has said it has applied for several years for the list of martyrs to be cleared. These family members, after saying that the municipality did not hear the calls for the list to be cleared, decided to erase the names of their family members.

We've sent the list with these names to the Court, but now, how many years the subject has been considered. We've made constant demands that the lists be cleaned up, but the commanders have put pressure on and the list is what it is. Since the municipality did not hear our calls for the martyr list to be cleaned and only true martyrs in it, we decided to erase the names of our family”, it says in response.

In the 64 - name lpidar, you now see red color in about 10 names that have been erased from family members.

The mayor of the municipality, Ilir Ferati, has said he and the institution he heads are not parties.

“Comuna does not list for martyrs whose names should be placed in the list. We expect the duty of organs to clarify the case. I'm going to meet the family of the martyrs, I have friends, but I don't have the powers to interfere with the” list, he said of TIME.

Kosovo police have said in a response to TIME that citizens who have erased their names at the Lapidari have interviewed them. In co-ordination with the state prosecutor they've been released.

This Lapidar was deployed on June 20th on the 24th anniversary of Istog's liberation.
