Haziri has said Prime Minister Kurti must now urgently take these three actions to prevent sanctions.
He has said that the transition of the situation should be made, elections in the four northern municipalities are appointed, and the draft draft of the Association statute take place. “The only action Prime Minister Kurti must take is the despassing of the situation in the north, the appointment of elections on demand and draft of the Association statute. This is the European plan now and several months required for Kosovo” Haziri told “Gazeta Blic”.
The European Union has been warning punitive measures against Kosovo for several days due to the tense situation in the country's north. The measures are designed to be political and financial.
Some of the measures Kosovo is expected to sanction are: The suspension of the work of all working groups for a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (MSA), suspension of funding EU programmes, disapproval of projects by the Fund for investing in the Western Balkans, and suspension of meetings at political levels.
Tensions in northern Kosovo, inhabited by Serb majority, began on May 26th, when the young Albanian mayors of Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviqi entered the municipal buildings under Kosovo Police's escort.
Serbs rejected this and have been holding protests ever since, demanding the withdrawal of new leaders and special police units.
The international community has submitted three key requirements to Kurti: calming the situation in the north, holding new elections in four northern municipalities, and returning to dialogue for normalising Kosovo-Serbia reports.
Meanwhile, Belgrade is required to ensure that Serbs take part unconditionally in local evental elections.
