Former EU representative to Kosovo: The situation in the north could be avoided, Kurti Government cautious

International Civilian Representative for Kosovo and former Special Representative of the European Union Pieter Feith said in an interview for Euronews Albania that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti must come up with a political initiative for resolving the situation in the north. Feith said the provisional withdrawal of Kosovo police from the north would help reinforce the situation.
“Curt to come up with an initiative of its own for the north. I'm sure the world will support him. The presence of Kosovo police in the north is temporarily removed. This will help reduce tension and be seen as the will of good action on the part of Kosovo”, Feith said.
He added that the most important thing at the moment is for Kurt to step forward with a political move of his own.
If America does not support Kosovo, it will be a very dangerous way for Kosovo. Kurt must gain the confidence of the US, Berlin and Paris. Kosovo needs to be recognised worldwide, we are at a low point of trust both towards Kosovo and Serbia, but Kosovo is more vulnerable. And as a Kosovo friend I give friendly advice: work on the path to dialogue, do not follow the course of violence”, the senior official said.
Feith further added that the situation in the north could have been avoided. He said that what happened had not been surprising, since the same situation had occurred in 2011 when he was an EU representative.
Feith recommended the Government of Kosovo to be more cautious in the conditions when Kosovo's largest strategic ally, The U.S. has become very critical of it.
I wanted to stress the fact that the US, which has always been Kosovo's closest ally, has now become very critical and that is a bad sign. That should make the government think about access, it should be more careful”, he said.
