Lars Gunnar Wigermark's place as chief of EULEX will, according to the announcement, receive Giovanni Pietro Barbano.
Barbano is the Major General at the Italian Carabinieri and current Director of the Stability Police Efficiency Centre in Italy.
The mandate of the new EULEX chief will begin on 26 June this year and will continue until 14 June 2025.
EU member states in the Commission for Policy and Security have made this decision.
Furthermore, the Council has recently extended the mission's Mandarin until 14 June 2025 and in line with EULEX's recent strategic revision of Kosovo, ruled that, in addition to continuing to implement its duties, the mission would help Kosovo's law enforcement authorities develop their capacities to exchange information with regional and international counterparts in the field of legal assistance and co-operation in criminal matters.
We remember that Vjosa Osmani has waited at the EULEX chief's farewell meeting, saying he appreciates their contribution to rule of law.
