US envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar at the Atlantic Council, along with European envoy Miroslav Lajcak, said Tuesday that the situation in northern Kosovo has the potential to turn into regional conflict.
“I am very concerned, this situation has the potential to turn into a regional conflict and regional confrontation, and that's why we are so strongly supporting European efforts”. This should be European efforts because both countries are in Europe, their highest aspirations are integration into the European Union. Also like Kosovo's biggest supporters, we would like to see that part of NATO and the European Union, so we want a process that reduces the concerns of the five non-recognitional countries and this should be the European process, but that doesn't mean that we stand passive”, Escobar said.
But shortly after this direct presentation of the two emissaries, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has held a media conference where journalists have also been asked about this statement.
Kurti said that if American emissary Gabriel Escobar was right in those statements, then the address is Belgrade.
“S first of which may go the crisis in northern Kosovo if it does not, I cannot know today, but I know that the crossing is a direct consequence of Belgrade's involvement in Kosovo's internal affairs ... so if there is a right to the American Emissar Escobar, then the address we should take so that we do not have regional conflict from the north of Kosovo is certainly Belgrade<1>, said Kurti.
However, the prime minister in another answer to the issue, at the same conference, said he did not believe there could be regional conflict”, but that this question should be addressed to the American emissary.
Regional conflict has more than two states. Now which other states do you think besides Kosovo and Serbia will be included because you say it will be regional. Montenegro, I guess, Northern Macedonia, I don't think, Prime Minister Rama has threatened Belgrade, you have to ask the American emissary for which states had the word”. Kurt said.
US Emisr Gabriel Escobar on Tuesday once again called on Kosovo and Serbia to work on extending the situation and to return the dialogue mediated by the European Union. /Periscopi/
