The US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, has said Kosovo will face consequences if it continues to ignore the United States' advice that young Albanian leaders do not work from municipal buildings in the north.
He has said at an online media conference that everything the US has done in the past 90 days has been in Kosovo's favour.
Serbia has not wanted Kosovo's application to the Council of Europe to move forward, we have supported it. Serbia has wanted Kosovo to cancel the elections, but we have backed it up, Serbia has wanted the elections declared illegal because of the low exit, we have supported them, Serbia has not wanted to recognise the legitimacy of the new mayors, we have recognised them. And I challenge everyone to find something we have done, which has not gone to the good of Kosovo”.
During the conference, Escobar has said that, the “although it is true that Serbia has not progressed to the level we have loved, in terms of establishing peaceful reports with Kosovo, I can say that much of what is happening in November has been due to Kosovo's unilateral actions, to find solutions for which it has not co-ordinated with the international community”.
Asked whether he will participate in the meeting, which could be held in Brussels next week between Kosovo and Serbia, under the organisation of European top diplomat Josep Borelli, Escobar has said he is still working at the meeting.
Depending on the preparations we will have, we will decide whether to go to Brussels. But without a doubt, these efforts will have US support”.
