Erdogan confronts Sweden: To offend Muslims is not free of thought

Turkey's President Recep Tayip Erdogan criticised Sweden for allowing a protest during which a person burned several pages of the Koran, further clouding the Nordic country's chances of becoming a NATO member. Iraqi Salwan Momika, 37, who lives in Sweden, conducted the protest outside Stockholm's main mosque after Swedish police gave permission to hold the event.
“We will eventually teach the arrogant Westerners that insulting Muslims is not freedom of thought”, Erdogan said in a televised speech.

In Iraq a number of protesters joined the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad on Thursday, angered by the burning of the Koran in Stockholm.
A crowd of Shiit clerics, Moqtada Sadr, stayed inside the complex for about 15 minutes, then left while security forces were deployed.
The protest occurred after Momika violated the Muslim holy book and lit several pages of it in front of Stockholm's largest mosque.
This is not the first time since Stockholm, protests have been held in which the burning of the Koran has been allowed. In January, in Stockholm a person burned the Koran, which led to Turkey's harsh response.
This incident deepened differences between Ankara and Stockholm, while Turkey has not yet ratified Sweden's NATO accession. Turkey has said the deadlock it has caused Sweden has to deal with the failures of this state to crush Kurdish groups, which Ankara names <x0terrorist>”.
