Democratic Party of Kosovo Chairman Memli Krasniqi, following the Kosovo Republic General Election Law vote, has indicated this is the most essential electoral reform that has taken place in our country.
Krasniqi, through a Facebook post, has said he is proud that the PDK has led the process.
“Today, following an extremely important and professional work by the Commission for Election Reform, led by PDK Parliamentary Group Chairman Abelard Tahiri, with the consensus of all parliamentary parties, has been adopted the Law for General Elections in the Republic of Kosovo. Without any qualms, this is the most essential electoral reform that has taken place in our country in over a decade, and for which I am extremely proud that the PDK has led as the” process, Krasniqi said.
Header The PDK said that the recommendations of EU, CEC and civil society organisations have been addressed in the new Law.
He has thanked for the help and support of this process for the international partners, the European Union, the US, the United Kingdom, the OSCE, etc.
“Reforms and options to vote and administrative process are radical and will make the difference in the next election by enabling an election process even more democratic, more transpire and with integrity. For our exiles, we have facilitated their registration process, creating the opportunity to vote in the embassies and consulates of the Republic of Kosovo, but also to send their ballot papers through mail to the states where they live by eliminating the numerous expenses they have so far had through the delivery of ballot papers to Kosovo<1>, Krasniqi said.
Under the new law, voters in our country -- since the next general elections -- will be able to vote to ten candidates, down from five so far, giving them more opportunities to elect the representatives they want.
“to increase transparency and eliminate allegations and irregularities, votes for MPs will be counted under increased monitoring through municipal counting centres and not at locations, where only votes for political subjects<1> will be counted, Krasniqi said.
The new election law also has many other fundamental changes and facilities -- for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, both within and outside of the country -- that they may easily exercise their right to vote.
“Thank you very much for the work and external contribution to Abelard, as leader of this process, MP Elmi Recica, as a member of the Commission and other PDK experts engaged in this process, Betim Josi, Faton Fetah, Ilir Gashi of Arian Elshani. Congratulations to all citizens! ”, Krasniqi said.
