Seeing Prime Minister Kurti's refusal to comply with State Department requirements, the US has decided to increase the level of intervention through the White House. Joe Biden National Security Deputy Adviser Ion Finer has called Prime Minister Kurti in the late hours of June 1st to talk about the situation and tensions in the country's north.
Finer in the call with Kurti has underlined US concern for the tense situation in northern Kosovo and has called on all sides to take steps aimed at de-excedenting the situation.
He has called on the Government of Kosovo to enable new leaders to carry out their duties from alternative objects and to remove police forces from municipal facilities.
As reported in the White House announcement, Finer has welcomed Kurt's willingness to work towards conditions for new elections.
“Z. Finer reiterated that the United States expects both sides to re-age in the EU-launched dialogue and to fully implement the normalisation agreement reached in Brussels and Ohrid earlier this year”, the report said.
