North Atlantic Alliance Secretary-General (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg, at a joint conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has again called on political leaders in Kosovo and Serbia not to take any steps towards the transition and return to dialogue mediated by the European Union.
“We call on all sides to stop any further escalation steps and to immediately return the dialogue facilitated by the European Union”, Stoltenberg said, as he added that the peacekeeping mission NATO in Kosovo (KFOR) will act in line with UN Resolution 1244.
Otherwise, calming the situation in the northern part of Kosovo, holding new local elections there and turning to dialogue on normalising Kosovo relations- Serbia is the three common demands of the European Union and the United States of America on exit from the crisis.
The kidnapping of three Kosovo police officers on the borderline in northern Kosovo by Serbia's security structures has added new layers to an already recognised atmosphere, but this time with the risk of slipping towards the edge of further escalation and climbing towards the extremes.
