While the meeting was supposed to focus on military aid to Ukraine, tensions between Kosovo and Serbia, sanctions against Iran and relations with Latin America, unexpected events that occurred over the weekend have overturned the agenda.
The ministers are still trying to understand the 36-hour dramatic saga with Yevgeny Pigozin and his mercenaries of the Wagner Group who rebelled against the Russian leadership, presenting the biggest threat to control of Vladimir Putin in power since his arrival in the Kremlin.
“The war against Ukraine launched by Putin and the monster Putin created with Wagner (...) is biting him now. The monster is acting against its creator”, said Josep Borrell, the EU foreign policy chief, after arriving at the meeting.
The political system is demonstrating its fragility and military power is breaking up. So this is a significant consequence of the war in Ukraine”, he added. /Euronews/
