American media reported that justice department prosecutors have secured a tape in which former President Donald Trump is heard saying there is a classified Pentagon document concerning a possible attack on Iran. The census was made after he left the president's post.
Television Network CNN, who first announced about audio-registering, indicated that Mr. Trump was heard saying he wanted to share classified information with other people, but knew there were restrictions on his competencies to declassify secret documents after leaving office.
Comments were made in July 2021 at Mr. Trump's golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey State. The words Mr. Trump says in audio-registering, appear to be in contradiction with his repeated claims, that he could automatically declassify the documents he took with him from the White House, after leaving the post. This audio-registering could serve as an important test for prosecutors, seeking to prove that Mr. Trump knew his chances of possessing classified documents were limited.
The tape is already owned by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, whose team has spent months investigating how classified documents are handled by Mr. Trump, as well as if Mr. Trump or anyone else has tried to prevent criminal investigation into this case. There are signs that the investigations are in their final stages. Prosecutors have interviewed a wide group of witnesses before a grand jury.
So far no one has been charged with criminal charges.
Criminal investigation into the case began last year after the National Archives Administration announced The FBI for the presence of 15 boxes of classified documents that were taken late from Mr. Trump's residence in Mar-a-Lago. This case went all the way to FBI control by order of Mr. Trump's residence.
According to CNN, the tape was recorded during a meeting in Bedminster in the presence of Mr. Trump's assistants and two people working at the time for the autobiography of former head of Mr. Trump's cabinet, Mark Meadows.
But according to CNN, Mr. Meadows' autobiography appears to be described in some part of it, that's exactly what this meeting is about. A Mr. Meadows lawyer did not respond to a request for comments from the agency Associated Press”.
CNN said witnesses, including General Mark Milley, chief of Chiefs of United Staff, have been questioned about this meeting. A spokesman for Mr. Milhouse refused to comment on whether he was interviewed or not. Similarly, a special prosecutor's spokesman refused to comment.
A spokesman for Mr. Trump said in a statement that the investigation was groundless and was part of the “continuing interventions in presidential elections”.
Beyond this Special Prosecutor's Investigation Jack Smith is also investigating Mr. Trump's alleged efforts and allies to undo the results of the 2020 presidential elections. Meanwhile, early this year, New York prosecutors pressed criminal charges against the former president for counterfeiting business data. The issue stems from the payments paid to two women prior to the 2016 presidential elections to ensure their silence over sexual relations they claim had with Mr. Trump. The former president has dismissed these claims.
