Association Chairman “Vatra”: Kosovo to implement Washington's demands, association must happen

In an interview for Voice of America, Vastra Association Chairman Elmi Berisha says he is following with concern the latest developments in northern Kosovo. However, he is convinced that this is a temporary situation and that the United States' relations with Kosovo will not be harmed. He calls [...]
Albanian-American Association ruler “Vatra”, Elmi Berisha, supports Kosovo's efforts to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, but adds that any government movement in Pristina should be in full co-ordination with the United States of America.
Kosovo's “government, prime minister, president, parliament and institutions in general must have it clear that the thoughts, the positions coming from official Washington should be respected as a whole. I remind the Albanian and Albanian citizens wherever they live in countries of origin that we have no better friend in the world than the American people and the American government. Therefore, we should not cast doubt on Kosovo's future”, he says.
In an interview for Voice of America activist Berisha says Kosovo should start immediately with the implementation of Washington's requirements, including for establishing the association of Serb majority municipalities.
The “Association should take place, but never have the rights of Serbs to come to the level of self-government, or governance, or the right to condition or destabilise the new state of Kosovo”, the event says.
Mr Berisha adds that the Kosovo government should be confident that the United States will not seek concessions that are at the expense of Kosovo's citizenship.
The “will never err with Kosovo because it was created by America, is the child of the United States. It is not only Kosovo, but also Albania. 110 years ago America formed Albania, 110 years later it also formed Kosovo. Therefore, this is not the dilemma that Albanians must have”.
On the other hand, the chairman of the Pan-Albanian Association “Vatra” says that American and European envoys in the Western Balkans, instead of pressure on Pristina, should be more severe against official Belgrade.
The “The nationals have not been fair and equal during the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. We are not very happy with the emissaries hanging out in Belgrade, Pristina, Brussels and the State Department. We think that the aggressor, the world knows it's Serbia and Belgrade official, in particular Vucic and Dacic”.
According to Mr Berisha, Serbian President Vucic and Serbian Foreign Minister Dacic stand behind recent acts of violence in northern Kosovo.
All protests and developments in the past few months and weeks are not orchestrated by Serbian citizens, but are criminal organisations that come prepared and deeply orchestrated by Serbia's president, Mr. Vucic and Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Dacic. Sad to say, the international community still does not have a strong attitude towards official Belgrade and has not decided on the position Serbia” should be in.
The recent situation, in particular hardy Washington's language towards Pristina, prompted the reactivating of the Albanian-American lobby, says Mr. Berisha.
We're basically talking to Congress, representatives in Congress and Senate, and we're engaged to make their role greater in the process. The influence of Congress and Senate should be much greater on the State Department, because there is a deadlock”, he says.
According to Mr. Berisha, the process of normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia would be more successful if it were directed entirely by the White House.
