Luke Coffey, a senior collaborator at the Hudson Institute and experienced analyst on security and foreign policy, has written about the recent events in the north of the Republic of Kosovo and the result that he said has produced all that happened.
Coffey says the violence that erupted in northern Kosovo on May 29th produced hurt NATO troops, Kosovo weakened and the transatlantic community has divided it.
He further says that from what happened in the country's north, Serbia has been braved and Russia has been empowered.
The clashes left NATO troops injured, Serbia braved, Kosovo weakened, Russia strengthened, and the transatlantic community split”, Coffy wrote.
Coffey stresses that the Balkans continue to remain an area of instability that policymakers should not ignore.
He recalls the conflicts that occurred after the end of the Cold War and the breakup of Yugoslavia, conflicts he says were brought under control only after foreign military intervention.
Institute member Hudson says the situation continues to remain fragile and that events in Kosovo show this.
Classes in country Kosovo last week left @NATO troops injured, Serbia embolded, Kosovo weanned, #Russia Empowered, and the transatlantic community divided. @ LukeDCoffey regimes report why the Balkans are important to stabilize in Europe.https://t.co/cHDKWqEZjG
