After meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Abbott has criticised the actions of municipal mayors in the north, saying they should not engage in security activities and must carry out their duties in the municipality.
Abbott has said they should work for the benefit of their citizens and seek more co-operation with security agencies.
“We remain concerned like all international Kosovo allies about the situation in the north. We're still looking for suspension. We do not believe that it is necessary for the mayors to perform duties from municipal objects. We don't believe it's necessary to play guards before municipal objects. They have much better work to do elsewhere. I hope the next few days to see progress, proposal, change, more co-operation among security agencies.” said Abbott on Thursday.
He has also estimated that it is not necessary for Kosovo police to play the guards' role.
The ambassador has also cited Kosovo's good relations with Albania and has encouraged the Kosovo government to listen to advice and show understanding for their friends' interests.
He has added that the Kosovo government should discuss important issues with the Albanian government during the upcoming meeting.
