About 19 killed after the explosion at a mosque in Afghanistan

An explosion has hit mosques in the northern Afghan province of Badakshan during a funeral of a Taliban official. At least 19 people have been killed in the blast, including a former Taliban commander, while 38 others have been injured. Moazuddin Ahmadi, head of information and culture in the Badkshan province, told Radio Free Europe that the explosion occurred in the town of Faizabad during the funeral ceremony of the Taliban deputy governor, Nissar Ahmad Ahmad, who had been killed during a car-bobe suicide attack three days earlier.
“in this incident, former police commander in the town of Baglan, has fallen martyr”, he said.
Later, he issued an appeal to local residents to donate blood to the wounded during the blast.
Still no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, even though the branch of the Islamic militant group in the province of Korazan on June 6th claimed responsibility for the attack that killed Ahmad.
The United Nations mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said the attack was a very disturbing “”.
“U n NAMA condemns this attack and recent violence and calls for halting attacks that show disregard for the lives of civilians”, this mission said through a Twitter post.
The Islamic-Corasan State Group is the key rival of the Taliban-led government since they took power in Afghanistan in August 2021. This group has recently intensified the attacks, targeting Taliban patrols, but members of the Shiite community in Afghanistan.
Taliban forces have responded by conducting military operations this month against IS in several Afghan provinces.
