KFOR has announced today that the number of peacekeepers injured during yesterday's unprotested violence in the municipality of Zvecan is 30.
“11 soldiers from the Italian contingent and 19 from the Hungarian contingent have suffered multiple injuries, including fractures and burns from improvised explosive devices. Three Hungarian soldiers were injured by the use of firearms. Their injuries are not dangerous for life”, KFOR report said.
The NATO-led KFOR mission has increased its presence in Kosovo's four northern municipalities to reduce the risk of escalation, as newly elected mayors tried to take office.
KFOR's “troops were later attacked by increasingly aggressive mobs. KFOR always acts with determination and restraint, within strict rules of engagement (ROE). In this case, she responded to the unprotested attacks of a violent and dangerous crowd, while carrying out her mandate at the UN impartially”, it is said further in the declaration of this mission.
“KFOR will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo, in accordance with its mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244,”, said at the end of the announcement. /Periscopi/
