Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic called on Serbian citizens in northern Kosovo not to enter into conflict with NATO.
He called for peaceful protests. Vucic addressed the public Monday evening after KFOR intervened to disperse Serb demonstrators gathered in front of the Zvecan municipality building in northern Kosovo.
Vucic said that on Tuesday morning, 30 May, he will hold a meeting with representatives of the QUINT states.
He also claimed that during the day he spoke to “Americans, Germans and Europeans”.
Vucic said that 52 Serbs, of whom, according to him, have suffered serious injuries, Radio Free Europe reported.
When on Friday, May 26th, when Kosovo Police helped newly elected mayors enter municipal buildings, Vucic issued orders for establishing combat readiness at the highest level.
“We have located our forces in countries where I think it is necessary”, he said.
Tensions resumed in northern Kosovo municipalities after the mayors, issued by the April 23rd extraordinary elections, all Albanians were rejected by local Serbs.
Groups of Serbs protested in the municipalities of Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviqi in northern Kosovo, opposing the new leaders of Albanian nationalism in Serb majority municipalities.
Kosovo police have reported that five people suspected of attacks and violence against KFOR members in Zvecan in northern Kosovo have been arrested.
