White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that the US assessment is based on the newly published data of US intelligence services. He did not elaborate on how American intelligence agencies came to that conclusion.
U.S. Supreme Chief General Mark Milley said in November that Russia had suffered over 100,000 deaths or injuries in the first eight months of the war. New figures suggest Russian losses have risen dramatically in recent months.

Both sides have mentioned their victories in the last days.
Mr. Kirby said nearly half of those killed since December have been members of the Wagner group, many of them convicted of being released from prison to join Russia's war in Ukraine. He said the Wagner group forces “was sent to combat without sufficient training, without combat guidance or rational command and organisational control”.
Mr. Kirby refused to speak about the number of killed in the midst of Ukrainian forces. General Millie said in November that about 100,000 Ukrainians were killed in fighting Russian forces in the first eight months of the war. / VOA
