The trial will continue with presenting evidence from the Specialised Prosecutor's Office (ZPS).
On April 17th, the Judicial Chamber ordered continued detention for Thaci and others after the tribunal, the risk continues for the former president and former Kosovo chairman to prevent the progress of the trial process.
On Monday, April 17th, the Judicial Chamber ordered continuing Mr. Thaci and Mr. Wessel. The Judicial Chamber found that the threat that Mr. Thaci and Mr. Wessel prevents the performance of the process and/or other criminal acts. The Judicial Chamber also found that these risks could be significantly reduced through the framework for monitoring communications used at the DHSK detention facility. Being like Mr. Thaci and Mr. Wessel, have remained in custody for a considerable period of time, the Judicial Chamber and parties are required to take into account the need for the trial to be carried out as soon as possible”, Michael Doyle, spokesperson of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers, has declared.
The hearing of witnesses in the judicial process towards Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselin, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, is developing closed to the public.
So far, two protected witnesses have been heard, while the prosecutor's third witness has appeared at the courtroom Thursday.
All the judgments in the DHSK are public; yet, sometimes judges decide to conduct a portion of the session in what is called the private session, or edit specific information to protect the identity and safety of witnesses or victims. The decision to hold the session in private to protect witnesses is carefully considered by judges, case by case. Even when witness testimony is not public, the accused's lawyers listen to what the witness says and have the right to ask questions”, Doyle said, broadcast the KP.
The trial against former KLA leaders has started 3 April with the parties' opening statements.
Before the court, Thaci, Veselin, Selimi and Krasniqi have pleaded innocent to charges of alleged war crimes.
They are located at The Hague detention centre since November 2020.
