Air defence systems dropped at least 40 fears moving towards Kiev. A 41-year-old man was killed from the remains and a 35-year-old woman in the city has been wounded, said Mayor Vitaly Klitschko.
The pre-dawn attacks came last Sunday of May, when the capital celebrates Kiev Day, the anniversary of its official founding 1541 years ago. The day is usually marked by street fairs, live concerts, and special museum exhibitions that have been made this year, but on a smaller scale.
Initial information showed that the air strike was the biggest raid on Kiev since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022, said Serhiy Popko, head of Kiev's military administration. Russia used the Shahed drones produced by Iran in the attack, he added.
Reuters, who reported the news, wrote that he could not independently verify that information.
“Today, the enemy decided to cure Kiev's people on Kiev Day with the help of their deadly UAV (unpiloted airlines)”, Popko said on the network's network.
