US Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier before the media has condemned the damage to KFOR and Kosovo Police vehicles with nationalist x-rays and material damage.
Hovnier has declared that today they had a proposal agreeing to reduce tensions in the northern part of the Republic of Kosovo.
“Pati agreed that the situation should be de-scalated, but I don't know if I can say there's reconciliation as to how this de-excendance will take place. The U.S. believes, I'm also talking about colleagues, who don't have to be elected mayors in the north to work legally every day. In fact, in the short term, we recommend that this not happen”.
“Just as the government managed to take their vows in other authoritarian buildings, to avoid conflict and perception of rising tensions, we also think that this is the right way for them to work [away from municipal objects]”, Houvenier said.
He also condemned the attack on several media during reporting from northern Kosovo.
“We're concerned about violence towards official property, we've seen X-rays against KFOR vehicles and police, we've heard of attacks on journalists. Colleagues from the European Union have already issued a communiqué in this regard, we also condemn this”- Houvenier said.
On the other hand, Houvenier added that they support the right to peaceful protest.
The peaceful procedure is right for a democratic society. We support each citizen's right to protest peacefully. Threat of people and destruction of property is not acceptable”- he added.
