Residents of the Pristina village of Barevalev have sought closure or siege of the Iber Lepenc Canal, where days ago, in another part of it in Vushtrri, a four-year-old child lost his life. But, the company Iber Lepenc, responsible for this channel, says citizens' demand is irreplaceable, considering the length of the river and the need for water for a part of Kosovo.
Worried about the tragic event that took place in the village of Akrashica in Vushtrria, residents of another village along the canal, in Barevaleva, Pristina, have sought its closure. Ahmet Januzi, the village's governor, says a case similar to that of the four-year-old child drowning in Vushtrri has occurred long ago in Barevala.
And so what's so dangerous is for them, for everybody who didn't see massis, except in the village of Barilev we had 5 victims, and who had no responsibility for them, we had a single case here and went, and neither the state nor the municipality took an interest in the weave, more are the interest of the cut-offs in the streets than Iber Lepencit channel...”, said Ahmet Januz, citizen.
Village representative Mustafe Shala says they have applied to surround Iber Lepenci's channel, but, according to him, so far no one has taken anything.
“We made a request as a local community to close or circle...to worry anyway that you have the coldest case of four-year-olds, and those others have been at that age are children they unconsciously can fall down, we've made a request as a local community but there's nothing undertaken in that direction and we ask that this part behind me be done everywhere by the children's side”, said Mustafa Shala, Chairman of the Local Community, Barevev.
But, company Iber Lepenc, says residents' demands are irreplaceable. The chief executive of this company, Faruk Mujku, told RTV21 that it is impossible to build barriers around the canal because of the length of the river.
“During the construction of the canal houses were away hundreds of meters, recently and especially after the 99 war, we have a phenomenon that's not good at building and commitment, which is supposed to usurp the property of Iber Lepenc, and construction of houses near the river which made the risk of families in this case even children... this channel requires maintenance, cleaning and permanent repair so where we have to use the radient machinery so it can't be made around the channel because it's used by its citizens who tried to do it around 10 weeks ago. ... This channel requires permanent maintenance and repair, so where we have to use the 160 miles, so we can're not going to be able to do that much more than 100 miles of thinking where there's a few people have been able to do.
The Iber Lepenci” channel was built in 1967, with the aim of supplying the water to the Cosova A and B power plant and the Ferronikli company. The same canal has also helped to supply drinking water factories and to water the soil around the canal.
