Lajcak, during his stay in Pristina, has expressed the European Union's stance on the Croatian model of minorities, if this model could also function in Kosovo.
“for the EU acceptable is what is based on EU norms and values, and which is in line with existing European models”, he declared before the media after meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Asked about the contrasting drafts presented by the Management Team that Prime Minister Kurti equated with “Republika Srpska” and the vision based on the Croatian model, Lajcak said one will be found among them.
This is exactly what we are trying to do”, the European mediator said.
Lajcak during his stay in Pristina said there were intensive and important discussions with Prime Minister Kurti for steps forward on the road towards normalisation.
He has indicated that on Monday in Brussels there will be a meeting at the chief negotiator level.
Asked whether it could come to straining the situation in the north, following the oath of Albanian mayors in the four municipalities there, Lajcak said there are two ways ahead -- normalisation or confrontation -- and that the latter is not in anyone's interest.
“We can have normalisation or confrontation and we want to be fully committed to normalisation. Tensions are not in anyone's interest”, Lajcak said.
And from Mitrovica, Lajcak has expressed concern over the situation in the north.
On Thursday, Lajcak met with representatives of the north, where he said he was disturbed by what he heard.
He called for attention to normalisation of reports and to avoid escalation.
It was important for me to visit Kosovo's north again and talk to various representatives in order to get my direct impression of the current situation. What I heard bothered me. We must avoid any possibility of escalation and full focus on normalisation”, he wrote on Twitter.
During his visit, the European emissary met with Mitrovica Chairman Bedri Hamza, as well as representatives from the Serbian List among others.
The European mediator in the dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, also walked through the Ibër Bridge, as he said the issue of its opening should be resolved through dialogue, with the reconciliation of both sides.
The bridge opening issue must be resolved with dialogue, with the parties reaching an agreement. All needs to be resolved with dialog”, Lajcak said.
During today, Lajcak will stay for a visit to Belgrade.
