Charles Kupchan, of the American Council for Foreign Relations, says the government of Kosovo should withdraw from efforts to install Albanian mayors in majority Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo.
According to him, these are actions that, in the long run, are useless and counterproductive.
“I think we should see that the Government of Serbia and Kosovo sit together and try to process details of the agreement [for normalising relations]. Self-awareness for the Serb community seems to be one of the main obstacles. I think what is happening right now in the north is a distraction from this important step of agreement”, Kupchan says in an interview given to Radio Free Europe.
According to him, the problem of northern Kosovo can only be solved with a broad agreement between Pristina and Belgrade.
