According to them, US officials have sent clear messages to the Government of Kosovo, not to take violent action in the country's north, and, as they say, Kosovo authorities should respect US demands and recommendations.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reacted sharply on May 26th, urging Kosovo to stop the violent “measures”. He said the Kosovo authorities' actions would result in consequences in reports between Washington and Pristina.
Tensions have increased north of Kosovo on May 26th, as Kosovo Police have intervened to enable new mayors to enter the municipal facilities in Zubin Potok, Leposaviq and Zvecan.
Confrontation between KFOR members and groups of Serbian citizens who protested in front of municipal objects, in these Serb-dominated municipalities, is marked on Monday, May 29th. They have even resulted in dozens of injuries from both sides.
Representatives of opposition political subjects, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) say that Kosovo Government must be held accountable for actions threatening Kosovo's reports with the US.
Former Kosovo ambassador to France, Staying Gashi, estimates that these reports have already been damaged.
The actions of Kosovo authorities, dangerous “” for US reports
Some citizens surveyed by Radio Free Europe say that following the intervention of Kosovo authorities in municipalities in the north, as they say, without consulting international partners, reports between Kosovo and the US are already threatened.
Agron Krasniqi, says US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's own statement reflects the situation at which point Kosovo- USA.
“He tells [Kosovo Prime Minister Albin] Kurt to take concrete steps and stabilise the situation. Meanwhile, the situation is being seen”, Krasniqi says.
Erroll Pocinka estimates Kosovo- The U.S. has been seriously threatened. Breaking these relations, he says, cannot happen and the Government of Kosovo should be aware of that.
“In my opinion, we are on the edge of the knife, and recent actions [of Kosovo authorities in the north] are very dangerous. Of course, I think, it's very serious breaking Kosovo reports- USA. Not if they break up, but they can't break. This doesn't make any sense.
The Haja statement says it is of great interest for Kosovo to maintain its partnership with the US.
I think politics is on edge. It's not that easy. In such a situation, however, decisions are very sharp. They belong to politics. Let's see what's going on, but I don't think we're breaking the reports with America”, Haxha estimates.
The government <x0 tacit”, opposition says that “some one has to account for”
Radio Free Europe has been directed to the Government of Kosovo to comment on US officials' statements regarding events in northern Kosovo, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's statement, that the Kosovo Government's actions “would result in consequences in bilateral relations” with the US.
Until the publication of this text, the Kosovo government has not returned answers.
The actions the Government of Kosovo has taken in the country's north, except they have been sentenced by US officials, they have also been seen “contrary to the advice of the United States and Kosovo European partners”.
Representatives of opposition parties, The PDK and the LDK say the Kosovo government should reflect on its decisions and act in line with US Secretary of State Blinken's statement.
MP The PDK, Xhavit Haliti, deputy chairman of the parliamentary Commission for Foreign Affairs and the diaspora, tells Radio Free Europe that Prime Minister Kurti, in the context of developments in the north and statements by American officials, must take steps to reduce tensions in the north, but also assume responsibility for the current situation there.
The relationship with the United States, I don't believe they're in danger. But the responsibility is ours, and for these actions someone has to render an account”, Haliti points out.
The deputy chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lutfi Haziri, hopes that Mr. Blinken's statement has been addressed to the Government of Kosovo and the <x0) consequences mentioned in the relationship, to be with those who caused it” tensions in the north, and not with the people of Kosovo.
“I consider the serious threat to specific reports that Kosovo has with the US, is how this brings Government and its prime minister [Albin Kurti] with these actions, with these behaviours and statements, often. The unilateral acts, such behaviors, of course hurt [Kosovo relations- USA. I hope they don't translate into collective ingratitude. On the contrary, Kosovo will maintain permanent gratitude and be grateful for all of the [US] contribution to Kosovo]”, Haziri estimates.
Former Ambassador Gashi: Kosovo reports- US has been damaged
Kosovo diplomat, Staying Gashi, former ambassador to Kosovo in France, estimates that “through the reckless shares of the Kosovo Government” relations between Kosovo and the United States of America have been damaged “
“means, [American State Secretary Antony's statement] Blinken was tough, and our disaster is that other statements -- less severe and not direct -- have not been taken into account. We, as citizens of Kosovo, have reason to worry about a lack of vision, which is accompanying Kosovo's foreign policy as a time of”, Gashi says.
He adds that the Kosovo government has continued with its actions north of the country following orders coming from US officials. In this context, according to him, Kosovo's interests, which are aimed at Euro-Atlantic integration, have been damaged.
For such a thing, co-operation and close partnership with the US is essential. When that partnership and partnership are damaged, we should see where the guilty are. We, as citizens of Kosovo, cannot ask for an account of the American government, but we must ask the Government of Kosovo for an account, says former Ambassador Gashi.
He stresses that, with all the criticism “deserved” that can address the Government of Kosovo, “should not lose focus on the fact that Belgrade continues to be the main host of instability in the region”.
On Monday, representatives of QUINT states in Kosovo US, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and France asked Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to take steps that would lead to the suspension of the situation in northern Kosovo.
US Ambassador Jeffrey Hovenier, who attended the meeting, expressed concern over the continuing “developments in northern Kosovo and urged Prime Minister Kurti “to take several steps to ensure that the situation' de-terration” is achieved.
Charles Kupchan, from the American Council for Foreign Relations, in an interview for Radio Free Europe on May 29th, said the Kosovo government should withdraw from efforts to install Albanian mayors in majority Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo.
The same day, Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi, through a Facebook text, said the mayors of municipalities in northern Kosovo “have the legal obligation to start work immediately”, while public institutions have the obligation that “ensure that they exercise their duties and responsibilities”.
