Charles followed his mother, Queen Elizabeth, when she died last September and at the age of 74, he will become the oldest British monarch to decide on his head the 360-year-old crown of St. Edward, while he sits on a 14th-century throne in London's Westminster Abbey.
His crowning will be attended by about 100 heads of state and personalities, including US First Lady Jill Biden.
His second wife, 75-year-old Camille, will be crowned during the two-hour ceremony.
It's a proud expression of our history, culture and traditions. A vivid demonstration of our country's modern character. And a loving ritual through which a new era arises.”, Prime Minister Rizi Sunak said.
Despite Sunak's enthusiasm, the enthronement is taking place amid a crisis of the cost of living and public scepticism, especially among young people, about the role and importance of the monarchy and questions about its finances.
Saturday's event will be on a scale smaller than that arranged for Queen Elizabeth in 1953, but will aim to be spectacular, featuring a series of historical emblems from the golden globes and decorated swords to a scepter carrying the largest cut diamond without color in the world.
After the service, Charles and Camille are leaving on the four-ton Gold State bus that was built for George. III, the last king of Britain's American colonies, returning to Buckingham Palace in a procession of 4,000 soldiers from 39 countries in ceremonial uniforms.
It will be the largest such show in Britain since Charles' mother was crowned. Thousands of people are expected to come to the streets, and millions will see him at home and around the globe.
