For two decades he divided the city.
The Ibri Bridge, which was built to unite the town of Mitrovica, became a symbol of the ethnic basis division.
Many attempts were made to open it, but this did not happen.
Everything is expected to change after the decision that the North Mitrovica Municipal Assembly received Friday for opening up for circulation as opportunities for free movement of citizens.
And those very ones are welcoming that decision.
However, there are those who are unaware of this.
However, from the peacekeeping mission NATO in Kosovo, KFOR, for T7, have declared that this issue is resolved through dialogue.
“The bridge's recovery is an issue that needs to be resolved through political dialogue. Mission NATO, KFOR, continues to monitor local developments and remains fully focused on the daily implementation of its mandate, based on the 1999 Security Council Resolution 1244, to ensure a safe environment and free movement for all communities in Kosovo”
With the decision to open the Ibri Bridge for circulation, the European Union's emissary for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, who, days ago, highlighted the wrong moment.
“We still have to face this on a daily basis, while we speak, in Mitrovica there has been a demand to open the bridge and the atmosphere is obviously not right for that. For this, I want to use this panel to send a message, this is a straight platform, this plan, it's a “in “in”, it's a lot of benefits for both sides, they have to respect red lines. This plan will bring stability to the region, relations must normalise”
All of the initiative to open the bridge for circulation began after an initiative by Vetevendosje Movement Assignation, Aida Dolly.
