Hill: Hard as it is, dialogue is the only solution between Kosovo and Serbia

Although the process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is extremely difficult, the only solution remains for both sides to continue talks. So stated United States Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill during the <x0 conference. Regional security challenges”, which is organised by Northern Macedonia President Stevo Pendarovski, in [...]
Welcoming the mediators' effort in the process of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Hill stressed that tension in reports between Kosovo and Serbia is at the expense of the entire region.
“I think tensions and conflict have an impact on all countries in the region, and what I would like to see is a kind of improvement, or at least lowering of” tensions, he stressed.
Meanwhile, in youth questions about the establishment of the Association of Serb majority municipalities in Kosovo, Ambassador Hill said that it should be invested in establishing credibility between the two communities.
“Two issues are of cruise importance: trust in the international community and clarity towards citizens in what their future life will be like, Hill said.
“A country that has problems with corruption, has bad institutions”
Speaking of fighting corruption, Hill said Western Balkan countries should remain focused on fighting corruption, as this phenomenon makes institutions of these countries unstable.
There is nothing worse than corruption. A country that has problems with corruption actually has bad institutions. Try to do something about it, but work in institutions that facilitate [the] corruption. Choose good men over the bad guys. Thus you will have better institutions that will face the fight against corruption”, Hill said.
The US ambassador to youth focused on the importance of intensifying co-operation between countries of the region, both in terms of economic development and security.
He underlined that no state can choose neighbours, but all wisdom lies in the fact that political leaders find ways to find ways to overcome disagreements, and the whole focus will be placed on common interests, with the emphasis on the Open Balkans initiative in this case.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski stressed the importance of North Macedonia resisting cyber attacks.
Referring to the rise of Russian influence in the Balkans, Ambassador Hill expressed confidence that the current Russian leadership has taken it, as he said, “civilisation in the forest”.
