Zeqiri and Peci say they are concerned about the possibility of passing the situation.
We want and are willing to start this job immediately. However, the possibility of passing the situation remains our greatest concern. The exercise of our duty as head would have to be done normally, as if of any other mayor without the need for police protection”, the joint statement said.
They've asked for the return of normality, “so that our work also has meaning”.

Izmir Zaqiri Declaration, Zubin Potok Speaker and Ilir Peci, Zvecan Mayor
Today, together, we have responded positively to the invitation to meet with US Ambassador Jeffrey Havenier and the head of the EU mission in Kosovo, Thomas Szunyog, as well as with United Kingdom Ambassador Nicholas Abbott.
Together we have discussed the situation in municipalities in the northern part of Kosovo, following recent developments that followed our oath as mayors of respective municipalities.
From the day we announced the candidacies for the mayors of Zvecan and Zubin Potok, to this day, our purpose and goal has been clear: to serve all the citizens of our municipalities, regardless, right and professionally.
Of course, the situation we are currently in does not please anyone. Therefore, right now, we call on all sides for calm, because violence has been and remains unattended in democratic processes.
Personally, since we also live in Zvecan and Zubin Potok, we know the actual situation on the ground and we know the real possibility of escalation of the situation. This serves no one, at least citizens who need work and progress in our municipality.
We want and are willing to start this job immediately. However, the possibility of passing the situation remains our greatest concern. The exercise of our duty as head would have to be done normally, like any other mayor, without the need for police protection.
We have been chosen by citizens in a free and democratic process, so even conditions must be created to govern freely and in cooperation with them. So we demand that normality be restored as soon as possible so that our work will make sense.
Of course, in achieving common goals, for work, development and normality, we seek the cooperation of all institutions and all relevant, local and international heeders.
