US Ambassador to Pristina Jeffrey Hovenier said the annulment of Kosovo's participation in the Defender Europe 2023 exercises is the first consequence for the Government of Kosovo, which has rejected Washington's calls to reduce the situation in the north.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had warned on May 26th that the Kosovo government's actions in northern municipalities would result in consequences in bilateral reports.
The first exhibiter of this was the decision made last night by the American Commander for Europe to cancel Kosovo's participation in Defender Europe 2023, which occurred during the night”, Houvenier said.
For Kosovo these exercises have ended”, he added.
The US has criticised the Government of Kosovo, saying that on May 26th, young Albanian mayors in northern municipalities “enter strongly” in municipal buildings in the north.
Havenier said the United States is thinking about other decisions it will make in this regard.
“We have asked [Kosovo Prime Minister Albin] The plan to take immediate steps to defuse the situation in the north. He has not responded to these requests. Therefore, we are considering what our other actions will be”, he said.
