Hovenier said that association is an essential element in the agreement for normalising relations with Belgrade and that it must be implemented as such to ensure membership in European and Euro-Atlantic structures, Houvenier said.
In 2013, Kosovo pledged to establish the Association of Serb majority municipalities. We have been very clear for a long time and we expect it will be done, and now it is an even more urgent issue because it is an essential element of Kosovo's responsibility and Kosovo's dedication to the Brussels Agreement, but also when it comes. The agreement on normalising relations between the two countries, Hovenier said.
He said the US welcomes the draft association status proposed by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, but added that we must now enter into practical issues of drafting a statute that implements association.
I'm aware that the Management Team has submitted a proposal to the table, I'm aware that many people have judged that this management team proposal exceeds this framework or the restrictions I have outlined. The Brussels agreement describes that the management team does this work and puts the proposal on the table, but the Brussels agreement also requires that the parties discuss and negotiate about it, the US ambassador said.
