The car carrying five young people, all in their late 20s, was fired shortly after they left the nightclub around 0500. Police link the story to the drug trade. The event brings to 21 the number of drug-related murders in Marseilles so far this year, reports the AFP news agency.
French media report that all five are known to the police and lived in a residential area where drug crime is widespread.
