EU spokesman Peter Stano has said that the EU strongly condemns today's clashes, especially the attack on the EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX.
“The EU strongly condemns clashes in the north, condemns attacks on EULEX patrols. Everyone must take action to de-climate and restore peace. The EU will not accept any further unilateral action, provocative”, he has said.
This is the European Union's full statement:
The European Union strongly condemns clashes with Kosovo police and protesters in northern Kosovo, initiated by the attempt by newly elected mayors to enter municipal buildings.
We strongly condemn attacks on patrols of the EU civilian mission in Kosovo, EULEX. EULEX should be allowed to implement its mandate peacefully.
All must take action to de-climate the tense situation and restore peace immediately. The EU will not accept any further unilateral or provocative action and preserving peace, and land security should be priority.
As the EU has repeatedly stated, the recent partial elections in northern Kosovo do not provide long-term political solutions to municipalities involved. Such a solution can only be found through a real dialogue between all key interest parties, including Kosovo, Serbia and the Kosovo Serb community, ?
