New Details Ahead of U's Chief's Visit AID in Kosovo

The top international development chief of the United States, Samantha Power, will visit Kosovo and Serbia this week, where she will meet with leaders of the two countries. Power becomes the first head of the American Agency for International Development (USAID) to travel to Serbia, a country that maintains close historical and cultural ties with Russia.
Power is expected to meet with the prime ministers and presidents of the two countries, where it is expected to encourage them to stay on the path of normalising their relations and continue to move towards membership in the European Union.
It “will stress USAID's support for Serbia's path towards membership in the European Union through our partnership to promote economic growth and democratic development”, the USAID-published statement said.
Power will be the first senior American government official to travel to the region since the European Union brokered a meeting between the leaders of the two governments last week in Brussels.
For 12 years, the EU has been working on mediating negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia. Brussels and the United States often intervene to calm tensions between the two capitals, especially recently when there have been tensions raised in northern Kosovo.
Also, Power will meet in Kosovo and Serbia with members of civil society, business leaders, journalists and others, including former NBA Serb player Vlade Divak, and disabled athletes.
