Borrell welcomes Kurti Vuchaq's statement on missing persons.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has said he welcomes reaching an agreement where Kosovo and Serbia have recognised the issue of missing persons as a humanitarian issue and have pointed out the urgent need for joint efforts to ease their families' situation, Borrell said [...]
Borrell said Prime Minister Kurti and Serbian President Vucic have accepted the important work done by the Working Group for Missing Persons, led by the International Box Cross Committee.
“as a sign of their common determination to ensure full implementation of their respective commitments in the field of missing persons, they have adopted the Declaration on Missing Persons”, Borrell said.
Furthermore, he said Kurti and Vuciq have agreed on operational details at the upcoming summit of the top negotiators.
The chief of European diplomacy said that resolving the issue of missing persons is not only humanitarian obligation but also essential opportunities for reconciliation and trust among people.
“It is urgent to ensure that the cemetery identification process is completed as soon as possible. Memories are fading, and individuals, places and events are more difficult to investigate”.
“This is why the EU welcomes the adoption of the declaration by the parties and expects the parties to make tangible progress in closing outstanding cases of missing persons and in meeting their respective obligations to families. The EU-led Joint Monitoring Committee, which oversees implementation of the Agreement on the Road to normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia and its Implementation Annex, will regularly review the progress achieved”, Borrell has indicated.
